The Pacifica is the baseline Yamaha electric 6 string, and it is around 0 USD brand new. This makes it at the bottom end of the electric guitar range, and in reach for most beginners. This is probably one of the most popular starter guitars on the market today, and is played by garage bands everywhere.

This guitar comes in a lot of knockoff styles, such as a Fender Strat knockoff, and the aesthetics are nice. Most come with 2 coils and a humbucker to keep the hum down, but during distortion play there is still a distinctive hum. It is a tough solid body guitar, able to take the standard beating between gigs and shows, and makes a great first guitar and a reliable backup.

Pacifica

The only complaint that most players have with the Pacifica is that the low E will pop out with heavy chord bending, and that the downtune can make the hum worse on the distortion. Most guitarists also agree that it doesn't stay in tune very long if you are playing a lot of bend chords. This can probably be remedied by using non-factory strings, as Yamaha strings are known to be at the low end of bad for a wrapped string.

The finish on the body and the silk on the frets is fairly thick, so scratches do not fade quickly into the finish. However, from a hardware standpoint, there are rarely any problems with this guitar, and it has high marks on reliability. Over time, of course, all scratches will fade into a guitar finish, so there is not much to get upset about.

Another thing about Yamaha-the factory settings on the action are high. You got to have gorilla fingers to roll off a decent box lead unless you drop the action down to where you can work with it. Yamaha bass guitars have the same problem, but that is a different story. When dropping your action, make sure you work some with the pickups as well so you don't keep a fuzztone with everything you play.

The bridge is usually in decent shape, with Yamaha hardware. Make sure you are riding the Yamaha pickups, as custom pickups usually make the hum worse. The neck pickup will pick up the hum at the low end, so solos on low E are going to sound thick and gravy-like.  It is best to roll solos from A down.

The whammy bar is well known for twisting the guitar out of tune instantly upon use. When you are bending, use your hands and skip the bar. This helps keep the tune while the song lasts, and you can speed tune it between songs. Just keep a tuner handy or a fork in your pocket to check between songs to ensure you are still riding clean. Bending strings will eventually take any guitar out of tune, but Yamaha will go out of tune faster than most. The Yamaha Pacifica is a solid beginner guitar that will carry any beginner to the next level.

In 1896, the Plessey v. Ferguson court decision established the "separate but equal" doctrine, allowing that it was legal and fair to separate public school students by race and color as long as the education given was "equal".

As history has shown, the education was seldom fair or equal. Thus, in 1954 the landmark court decision of Brown v. Topeka Kansas struck down the 1896 decision. It outlawed racial segregation of public school students, ushering in the desegregation of public school institutions across the nation from elementary through college. Public schools were ordered by federal mandate to use race to equitably assign children to public schools; thus, eliminating the segregation that previously was determined by neighborhood residency.

Milliken

Today, there are two cases in the U.S. Supreme Court that challenge local public school board policies in Louisville and Seattle. The Bush Administration has publicly agreed with the parents, who brought the lawsuits that are in favor of desegregating these schools districts.

The lawsuits argue that desegregation policies are well-intentioned but not constitutional. In order to be legal, desegregation policies must be based on a "persuasive good reason". The two lawsuits contend that no persuasive good reason exists in the Louisville and Seattle school districts, with the Louisville brief citing that "a well-intentioned quota is still a quota".

Many are sitting back and watching the outcome of these two Supreme Court cases. If the court decides in favor of the parents, the ruling could possibly affect 400 school districts in 17 states, which continue under court-ordered desegregation.

Why do these parents and those against desegregation believe that now is the time to overturn Brown v. Topeka Kansas?

First, the Bush Administration has publicly supported not only these public school cases but other lawsuits, as well, that seek to eliminate federal-mandated racial equity in business.

Second, Harvard University's Civil Rights Project has shown that public schools across America have been resegregating during this century. Patterns of segregation exist at all levels of public education -- district, state, regional and national levels.

One key finding of the study is that white students are the most segregated of public school students, attending schools that are at least 80 percent white.

With the onslaught of school vouchers, charter and alternative schools, as well as increased immigration into the United States, more and more white parents are sending their children away from the public school system for their education; thus, the public schools nationally are now approaching 40 percent minority enrollment -- nearly twice the amount of minority students enrolled in public schools in the 1960s.

In 1974, the Supreme Court decision of Milliken v. Bradley banned desegregation efforts between city and suburban areas in metropolitan Detroit -- a third reason for the general public to believe that Brown v. Topeka Kansas may be overturned and another key finding of the Harvard study.

Since the Milliken v. Bradley decision, many of the larger cities have suffered with segregation within their urban areas, with mostly minorities populating those sections of the cities. For example, 27 of the largest urban public school systems serve a fourth of their black and Latino student populations.

Fourth reason, the Harvard study also found that even in desegregated public school systems in the United States, black students are segregated through student tracking and biased testing.

America touts itself as a colorblind society within this century; yet, many minorities across the nation continue to experience a lack of quality, educational resources that are enjoyed by most white students. Many federal and state public school funding formulas ignore the segregation resource issues, adding to the unequitable and lack of resources for primarily minority public schools.

Big business, both domestic and abroad, already has succeeded to some degree (with government support) in eroding the democratic right that everyone, regardless of race, color, creed or religion, has a right to work. Now, our public school systems are under attack. If the Supreme Court rules in favor of the parents in these two cases, we could very well see ourselves back in the turbulent times of the 1950s.

I really want you to read this. Especially if you are thinking of getting a monkey as a pet. He's very different from a cat or dog as he's an exotic animal - but be aware that monkeys are not easy pets to own. He's a wild animal and will remain so and will require a lot of commitment from you, his parent for as long as he lives - longer than a cat or a dog. There are several breeds of small monkeys which do well in monkey cages of the appropriate type - you will have seen them online when you were doing your "monkey as pets" research. Outdoor monkey cages need to be in the shade and should be larger than you think you'll need - monkeys require lots of space.

Breeds. Squirrel monkeys are adorable' they're originally from South and Central America and were originally brought to the United States as pets by humans. Give some thought to whether you'll get a baby monkey or adopt a grown one who will already be acclimated. A baby will require infant milk until you wean him to solid foods, while a mature one would probably be easier to feed. Your pet food store will have commercial monkey food but you will need to supplement that with fruits and vegetables - in the wild, he would eat grubs and grasshoppers too. Cooled hard-cooked eggs, nuts, and seeds; consider stringing dried fruits and vegetables and hang them inside your monkey cages as he'll enjoy tearing them apart.

WallMonkeys

He's extremely active and sociable and needs plenty of stimulation as he's confined to whatever you provide in the way of monkey cages. Toys should be wood, not plastic as he's a chewer with very sharp little teeth. You might want to check out children's toys for the backyard, such as a slide or a little house for one of his monkey cages - these are built of solid, molded plastic and are hard to destroy. He'll need a tree or two to sleep and play in, swinging from one to the other as he would do in his natural habitat. A few pieces of garden hose attached to the roof would be perfect for swinging and climbing. And a hammock - and a place to hide when he feels the need for solitude. His water bottle should be attached securely to the walls of his monkey cages and his food bowl should be of stainless steel - monkeys are messy and love to throw things, even food.

When you find a veterinarian who's familiar with monkeys, ask him or her about monkey cages. You'll need a vet for annual examinations and shots. If your monkey is a youngster, consider spaying or neutering because when he becomes sexually mature, he'll be a lot less affectionate and more aggressive. Monkeys bite when scared and they do not like loud noises! They do not tolerate small children well, so check to make sure that your state allows monkeys as pets because many of them have laws against it. If your monkey bites someone, you may run into trouble with your local authority.

Consider the pros and cons carefully - it's a commitment for life and you'll need lots of patience and tolerance - it's a bit like having an eternal three-year old around. Demanding, noisy, spoiled and absolutely adorable little animals, having a monkey as a pet is not to be taken lightly. But do enjoy him if you decide to get one.

Milliken's Legato carpet tile selection is the standard bearer for all other residential carpet tiles on the market. Many consumers find carpet squares and tile appealing due to their easy installation and superior functionality over all other floor types. Milliken Legato has taken carpet tile to a whole new level with many of their features. The Legato carpet panel line by Milliken gives flooring consumers 3 different types to choose from to fit any look and décor in their home or light commercial setting. These 3 types are Fuse, Embrace, and Touch.

Legato Touch is the most popular entry level residential carpet tile in the market. With prices typically below a square foot, Legato Touch fits the bill when it comes to budget minded projects. Legato Touch by Milliken also fills the need for consumers who like the look of frieze carpet but want to use carpet tiles. A very nice feature of Legato Touch is that the frieze design hides seams flawlessly. Legato Touch has Milliken's famous TractionBack system that typically requires no glue for installation. Touch is also treated with Scotchguard for extra protection against stains. Touch features a build in padding in the backing so it's ready to go right out of the box! Legato Touch is available in two different, flecked earthtones and is a nice fit in any room in the house.

    Milliken

Legato Embrace is quite popular. Embrace is a textured plush carpet tile design, with a slightly smoother look than Touch. It is also a denser weight product and holds up well to foot traffic in the home. Embrace has 18 solid colors to select from. Milliken's Legato Embrace also has TractionBack and Scotchguard protection. The Embrace Legato carpet squares and panel collection have tremendous appeal in bedrooms, playrooms, basements and many other spots in a home. Embrace has an added bonus with Milliken's anti microbial barrier used between the top layer of the carpet panel and the integral, padded backing.

Legato Fuse is a bold tile. Fuse offers an array of over 15 choices. Some of the choices are geometric designs, some feature stripes, other have texture, and there are also solids. The neat concept is that there are just 5 colors used, so it makes it very possible to create a custom looking floor with the Legato Fuse line. Fuse also has Milliken's TractionBack, glueless padded backing system. Scotchguard is applied as well giving you confidence that these residential carpet panels will last. Milliken's Legato Fuse is a perfect match for when you need a quality but discounted custom floor for anything from fun to formal.
